Yazoo Pass (bayou), Feb. 3, 1863, the bayou, which had formerly connected the Coldwater and Mississippi rivers but had been closed by erection of levees, was reopened by the Federals using explosives in order to approach Yazoo City from the rear; Feb. 19, 1863, skirmish nearby between Brig. Gen. Nathan Forrest's Confederate cavalry and Maj. Gen. John McClernand; Feb. 24 - April 8, 1863, the Federal Yazoo Pass Expedition.
